I bought this after researching between the MXR and this and i could not be happier! There is NO tone coloration with the bands set to neutral and the range of adjustment is more than enough to get your tome where it needs to be. I have tamed the fizz on the Peavey Triple X with this, if this pedal can do that, then it has my vote.
I reccommend if you want to produce clear, cutting highs, mellow lows and breakthrough mids. This little box does exactly as advertised.
This EQ pedal has been on my main board since the day I got it and it will remain there. It's much more useful than I anticipated. I've used it as a boost, I've used it to add presence to single coil pickups or change the character of humbuckers, it can shape the sound of overdrives into something completely new, and I've put it after my compressor as a preamp. It's become so critical to my sound that I had to buy a second one to use whenever I make a second pedalboard.
I'm honestly blown away; the Tone Group EQ is absolutely incredible for the price, I have since added it to my main pedalboard!
Pros:
- Metal construction, feels solid.
- Every slider stops and clicks in the middle so you can get an even level (not usually found on cheaper EQ's)
- Clean with virtually no noise unless boosting the dB Level or 2-4k (could be my humbuckers).
- Can be used as a Boost pedal.
Cons:
- No power source included and no battery power (common for many pedals) but might affect some customers, however not me personally.
If I was nitpicking or to offering improvements to this EQ, then the sliders could have knob of some sort on them, but for this price point I really can't complain and don't have a problem with the way they are currently.
I use this EQ with an FRFR Monitor. I take my guitar through a ZOOM GX1 Four Multi-Effects Pedal into the Sonic Cake 10-Band EQ pedal out thru the input of my HEADRUSH 108 FRFR Monitor.
Because the monitor is FRFR (Full Range, Flat Response) EQ, just ain't there.
My goal is for my LES PAUL or STRAT to sound like it's coming through a killer amp. I MUST have an EQ to adjust the Mids & Highs, per the room we're playing in. The HEADRUSH has no EQ and though the ZOOM Mulit-Effects pedal gives me what I want effects-wise, it doesn't give me that "Cut Through The Mix" EQ-Boost. Feel me?
If you're having similar issues, no what your Gig-Rig situation is... I am telling you this inexpensive lil piece of EQ options, is THE T-R-U-T-H!
